Tampines is residential area situated in Singapore's East Region. It is bordered by Changi towards the east, Pasir Ris towards the north, Paya Lebar and Bedok towards the west plus the Singapore Straits towards the south. The New Town is situated in the northern part of Tampines. It is the 3rd largest new town in Singapore, as well as is the 3rd most populated new town.
Tampines (includes Simei and Tampines North) houses over 237 thousand residents residing in 152 thousand HDB flats at population density 13,000/km2. Thanks to the Singapore's urban planning policy, Tampines is created partially as a self-sufficient town. Thus, there are range of facilities and commercial area are equipped mainly for residents within the new towns. There are 3 main retail shopping malls: Tampines 1, Tampines Mall and Century Square. There are numerous of restaurants, department shops, cinemas, supermarkets, bookstores, gift and jewellery shops can be found within these shopping centres
